Heather Mason - Chief Financial Officer
I am a qualified chartered certified accountant (FCCA) with several years’ experience in both the commercial and public sectors.
This includes eight years at Manchester Colleges and Academies with a £2m budget as the financial accountant producing consolidated financial statements for the all the college campuses with five regional prison areas and two Academies. Also three years at Macclesfield College and Academy as the Management Accountant producing the financial statements for both.
Prior to the education sector I have worked at a private worldwide training company as the financial controller producing consolidated financial statements for three companies translated into French for their head office in Paris. Also I gained an enormous amount of experience whilst working at a stock brokers resolving several years tax issues and a £358k accounts processing error due to client bank accounts not being mirrored.
Having worked in the commercial sector I understand the need for Academy Trusts to become more business minded to overcome the difficulties of the current challenging economic conditions. With this is mind my aim is to develop a business model of strength and sustainability so that the academic staff remain focused on their pupils' education to allow them to realise their full potential.
I am passionate about my work and really thrive on challenge and getting involved. I have attention to detail and I am able to interpret information quickly and communicate to a wide audience including non-financial stakeholders. I have expanded my skills from financial matters to facilities and resource skills focusing on value for money and creating a safe environment. The school environment gives you a feeling of great satisfaction, that you have contributed something good to benefit your colleagues and most of all the pupils. My motto is to be kind and helpful each day, a smile goes a long way.
