Jo Ashcroft - Director of Education

I am currently the Director of Education for the Aspire Education Trust, supporting school governors, leaders and teachers in all of the academies within the trust. I am also part of the Pupil Premium management team, undertaking school support in this area, reviews of provision, leading a PP research and development hub and delivering training for school leaders and governors.

I am passionate about education and have worked in education for 15 years. I have taught and been on the leadership teams in schools in a wide variety of contexts, both small and large and in very diverse socio-economic backgrounds. I began my teaching career in Wigan Local Authority, working at two schools there, during which time I taught in all primary phase year groups (Nursery to Year 6) and also worked as an Advanced Skills Teacher (AST). My role as AST involved the LA deploying me to schools in need. Some of my work included: 1:1 support for teachers requiring development; working with the leadership team to drive changes in teaching and learning policies to improve standards; a one year deployment to a school in special measures to improve teaching, learning and pupil progress and outcomes.

I have worked in Cheshire East Local Authority for the past seven years, as headteacher of two primary schools. The first was a one form entry school, which also had a LA Resourced Provision for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Condition and, as an amalgamation school, had a very diverse intake of pupils. The second was a 1.5 form entry school in an area of extreme social and economic deprivation and challenge.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, days out with my young son and daughter, travelling, reading and walks in the countryside.
